Description: To commemorate the bicentennial of Alabama, the city of Montgomery installed a series of 16 highly detailed bronze relief sculptures. Each sculpture depicts an important event in Alabama’s history. Our goal was to tell Alabama’s story by bringing some of these sculptures to life. To do so we took photographs of the sculptures and then cut them apart to colorize and animate them. This projection was the grand finale of the bicentennial celebration.
What I did: I worked on a five person team to storyboard and produce this project. My initial responsibility was to create a proof of concept for bringing the sculptures to life. I ended up creating three of the final sculpture animations. The image gallery below has stills of the three scenes I created along with photos of the original sculptures.
I also created the entire Sweet Home Alabama ending which begins at 5:32 in the video above. I was given total creative freedom and I just had fun with it. Lastly, I shot the video above of the event itself.
