Purpose: This was a side project I did for fun.
Description: I purchased an original stereoscope (circa 1910) and created my own 3D photos to use with it. My first round of photos were focused on capturing buildings and structures that were built prior to 1900. After that, I just had fun with it and started capturing whatever seemed cool.
Technical Challenges: At first I tried to get super technical and create perfect stereo pairs. I used a tripod and a slider so I could adjust for the ideal interocular distance. I quickly realized that this approach was completely unnecessary. I ended up creating all of the stereo pairs with a handheld camera. It turns out that the human eye can easily compensate for slight variances while viewing stereo pairs. So using a handheld camera worked just fine.
