Multi-Layered Display

Client: U.S. Army

Description: This is a multi-layered 7-screen display we designed and installed at the Huntsville international airport in Alabama. It was designed to inform the public on the military activities happening locally and their greater importance to the overall mission of the Army.

Technical: Unlike a video wall, this is not a single video spanned across all seven screens. Instead, each of the screens is a separate HD video and they are all edited individually to be frame accurate to each other. Since the screens are layered, this allows the screens in front to have different imagery than the screens behind them.

What I did: I created the initial setup for the green screen shots as well as shot some of the video. I did all of the chroma keying and rotoscoping. I also created the center screen sections with the animated text and did all of the timelapse photography. The screenshots in the image gallery below show some of the specific sections I created.

I was also responsible for creating the master 7-screen edit. To do so, I created templates in 3ds Max and After Effects which allowed me to more easily create the content. I edited everything together ensuring that all seven compositions remained frame accurate. My other major responsibility was to maintain the physical display and video servers.

Note: The video gallery at the bottom of this page has the full length videos. They are very long, so I don’t suggest watching them.
